Construction of hydroelectric power plants in harmony with nature and the environment

The environmental effects of the construction of hydropower plants and the production of hydropower are always locally limited and well known. Run-of-river power plants represent the most environmentally friendly type of commercial hydropower; they are usually located on watercourses at altitudes with sparser environments and a cooler climate. This results in regular rainfall. This and the natural slope result in a technical efficiency of more than 90%. In comparison, the construction of a plant requires the least intervention in the natural course of the watercourse and the ecosystem. Small-hydro-run-of-river hydroelectric plants are therefore also free from taxes on the use of natural resources and land leases.

Regulating the water system through run-of-river power plants also has positive local effects, such as effective prevention of floods. When constructing and modernizing hydropower plants, attention is always paid to minimizing the ecological consequences.

/ Nature Conservation — Fish Migration Aid

Water management with ecological responsibility

Managing any fish stocks requires specific solutions for each body of water. In order to minimize the effects of hydropower plants on fish populations, measures such as fish stocking, the restoration of fish habitats and the construction of fish migration aids are taken into account.

We intend to work together on the environmental management of rivers in close cooperation with research institutes, environmental authorities and riparian communities.

The focus here is on the continuous development of water management in order to combine the various usage requirements with the requirements of hydropower production.
